Deborah Thompson's island landscapes have been renowned for years. Her signature paintings call to mind a timeless Hawai'i with a vintage flair. She works primarily in oils and acrylics but also creates 3 dimensional sculptural plaster murals. Deborah also specializes in faux finishes and decorative painting executing projects for interior designers and clients for the past 20 years. Thompson, born in New York City in 1967, earned a BFA in fine arts and trained classically in Paris, France for 1 year at Parsons School of Design.
Thompson captures the beauty of Hawai'i with a special focus on detailed tropical botanicals. Having a distinct and recognizable style, Thompson's work has been sought and acquired by numerous private and public collectors throughout the United States, Asia and Europe. Thompson makes her home with her husband Steve and two daughters Rachel and Emily on the Big Island of Hawai'i in Hawi, a small, rural artists community in the middle of ranch country.She is an active part of the community and takes pride in promoting Hawai'i natural treasures and landscape in her artwork. Summer Art Academy for Children
Thompson spearheaded the Summer Arts Academy offering a 3- day multi-media fine arts workshop for children ages 5-12. Workshop curriculum explores: *drawing and composition * acrylic painting on canvas * mask making with plaster gauze * gyotaku fish prints and mono-prints * watercolor painting on paper * hand made paper making techniques * mosaics with glass tiles, shells and a variety of found objects * hand building and pottery wheel techniques with air dry clay The class helps children express their creativity in a safe, warm and artistic environment.
